Cameos for Valentines
As part of Binghamton's First Friday Art Walk -- and in celebration of Valentine's Day 2007 -- the Connelly Gallery at 205 State St, Binghamton, NY 13901-2711 will hold an exhibit and sale of 19th and early 20th century cameos The Perfect Gift for Your Valentine on Friday, February 2, 2007 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Enjoy special entertainment and treats with a Valentine's Day themeas you shop for your sweetheart.
The exhibit consists of vintage shell cameos, most of which were carved near Naples, Italy. Many illustrate mythological themes, usually portraying a woman in profile. The cameos -- fashioned into brooches, rings, pendants, earrings, and hatpins -- are set in gold, silver, bakelite, plastic and other man-made materials. The exhibit and sale of vintage cameos will continue through February 28, weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and at other times by appointment (Telephone: 607-722-9593).

The auction comprises vintage items from a small Estate and a large consignment from a Martin Marietta transfer. Selling without reserve are furniture, including a circa 1840 Empire chest of drawers, a circa 1850 Empire drop leaf table, and a large circa 1935 Duncan Phyfe table with four leaves (all mahogany); an early pine server and a pine hutch table; cane bottom and captain's chairs, a large wooden entertainment center, children's items including toys, and five pedestals. Also, miscellaneous items and accessories, including coffee makers, a food processor, an assortment of modern cookware and cookbooks, decorator items from flower arrangements to statuary, and small appliances, such as a deep fryer and ice cream maker. Selling without reserve are furniture, including a Colonial Clock Co. grandfather clock, French provincial bedroom suite and dining room set, a sofa and matching love seat, and an illuminated china closet; and miscellaneous accessories and glassware, including a German cuckoo clock, a 9 X 12 oriental rug, military items such as a circa 1940 Army jacket and Army-issue Elgin watch, a sewing machine, and a 30" color TV.
