The son of a carpenter, Charles M. Hoffman, who was educated at the University of Connecticut, developed an aesthetic appreciation of wood at an early age. Perhaps his 25-year career marketing high quality, specialty millwork helped develop his artistic sensibility, but it wasn't until the late 1970s that his passion for wood sculpting took off with the gift of a chisel set from his wife Sally. Today, his carvings, like those on exhibit and for sale in the Gallery, exploit the natural beauty of his medium -- wood.
