Muscle Car Auction: Part II

Bob and Sallie Connelly will conduct the second, salvage part of a two-part Muscle Car Auction for the Estate of Richard Manculich on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00 am, with a preview at 9:00 am, on site at 1298 Hawleyton Rd, Binghamton, NY 13903.

Mr. Manculich was an avid GM collector and had an extensive shop with many tools and parts, all of which were scheduled for auction on-site on November 20, 2010. Due to a fire on November 12, the November 20 auction (Part I) was held elsewhere and limited to items stored off-site. This auction (Part II) is for on-site items stored away from the fire and for salvageable items damaged in the fire. Everything will be sold without reserve AS IS (No Refunds, No Returns) at a 10% buyers premium.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THIS AUCTION

On November 12, 2010 a fire at the auction site destroyed some of the items scheduled to be sold in this auction. On November 17, the insurance company (a) limited access to the site, and (b) sequestered the contents, including undamaged items, until the investigation is complete.

Artist Kathy Jablonowski has recently returned to the Binghamton, NY area bringing with her an exciting collection of uniquely designed hooked rugs, each showing her extraordinary talent for blending colors to create one-of-a-kind works of art.

Kathy has studied with Ramona Cann, Polly Minick and Beverley Mulcahy, all noted rug hookers from various parts of the country, and uses wool from many different sources. Using an old art form, not the more common latch-hook style, she often incorporates family items into the finished piece, creating a rug that is a piece of family history.

Ms. Jablonowski's exhibit, Hooked on Rugs, opens at the Connelly Gallery, 205 State Street, Binghamton, NY 13901 on Friday November 5, 2010 from 6:00-9:00 pm as part of the First Friday Art Walk for November and December. The exhibit and sale will continue through December 30, 2010, weekdays from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and at other times by appointment (Telephone: 607-722-9593).

Theodore B. Starr, of Black, Starr & Frost, was an active jeweler and silversmith from 1865 until his shop closed in 1924. A collection bearing his mark descended in his family and is being sold in this auction by a granddaughter. Another collection of Russian silver enamel is from a Scranton Pennsylvania Estate.

All of the items in this auction are selling without reserve AS IS (No Refunds, No Returns) at a 10% buyers premium. All silver is selling with an opening bid of 80% of spot of the NYS Merc Silver, as of the close on Friday, July 24th.

The auction includes over 500 lots and several hundred non-cataloged items from the Estate of Jan McComsey. Mr. McComsey went to work for the Hubley Manufacturing Company in Lancaster Pennsylvania at 15, and throughout his tenure, took home many items discarded by the Company, including mockups, color separations, correspondence, court documents, catalogs, notes and letters.

As part of Binghamton's extended First Friday Art Walk the Connelly Gallery at 205 State St, Binghamton, NY 13901-2711 will open an exhibit and sale of original acrylic and lacquer paintings by internationally known artist Sky Jones on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is the premier exhibit of this California collection painted between 1984 and 1997. Visitors to the Gallery on Friday evening will enjoy hot, fresh popcorn, and may bring personal property (up to three pieces) for a free verbal apppraisal by a certified appraiser. Born Michael R. Whipple in Salt Lake City, Sky Jones was graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in art in 1971. Working since 1984 as Sky Jones and since 1997 as Siren Bliss, he has executed artwork for movies, such as Star Trek, Meteor, The Neverending Story and Dressed to Kill, illustrations for magazines including TV Guide, Time, Look, Life, Newsweek, and People, and portraits for politicians, sports figures, and celebrities, such as Chuck Norris, Leonard Nimoy, Kirk Douglas, and Jaclyn Smith. The author of two books on art and life, The Artist's Bible in 1983 and Spirits in 1984, Sky Jones is represented in the private collections of notables such as Queen Elizabeth, Burt Reynolds and Mohammed Ali. Bob Connelly will talk about "The Valuation of Stoneware: How to Appraise When There Are No Direct Comparables" on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 6:15 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 30 Lodge Street, Albany NY 12207 as part of a daylong presentation on The Weitsman Stoneware Collection presented jointly by The Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers and The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

The day's events start at the New York State Museum, Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12230, where participants will enjoy a Lecture and Tour of the Weitsman Collection, a Backstage Tour of stoneware not currently on exhibit, and a Tour of the Latin American Art Collection on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. These events are free, but registration is required.

The evening events at the Crowne Plaza include a discussion at 5:00 pm by Frederick L. Iusi of "Current Changes in USPAP," Bob's talk after dinner, and a talk at 7:15 pm by Alex Rosenberg on "Latin American and Cuban Art." We are selling the home and contents for the Estate of Joan D. and Edward J. McLaughlin III. Everything, except the real estate, is being sold without reserve, with a 10% Buyer's Premium.

The Jaques and McLaughlin families are historically important in Orange County, where John Jaques Sr. (1790-1876) operated a boot factory from 1818 to 1837. In 1835 he planted his first vineyard, which his sons took over and operated until its sale in 1886. Now known as the Brotherhood Winery, it is the oldest winery in the United States.

John Jaques Sr.' daughter, Sarah married Nathan McLaughlin, and their son, Edward J. McLaughlin I, opened a General Store in Washingtonville in 1879. Edward McLaughlin II married Helen Burnett, whose grandfather was a Revolutionary War officer and an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati. Many of the items from the Jacques and McLaughlin families remain intact, and were passed on to Joan and Edward McLaughlin III.

A highlight of the tour will be the full size scale model of the Heinkel He-162 Volksjaeger, the second jet engined fighter aircraft to be fielded by the Luftwaffe in WWII. This remarkable model, which Bob appraised for the Museum, is so accurate that visitors find it hard to believe the model isn't real.

The Wings of Eagles Museum Lecture and Tour is just one of many events planned by the Antique Automobile Club of America for its Eastern Spring Meet.
